The CSK Urban Artistic Apiary was established in 2016, following the global pro-ecological trend of urban apiaries. It supports the local ecosystem, serving educational, didactic, and recreational functions. The apiary complements the architectural concept of green roofs, which were part of the design of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin from the very beginning. It consists of several beehives located on the south-eastern side of A. Grottgera Street. It is a production apiary, usually producing two varieties of honey during the season: multi-flower and linden. With abundant nectar from local plants, nearly a ton of honey is harvested from it during the season. It is available during the spring and fall seasons to all visitors to the CSK building.<\/p>\n\n

The apiary was recognized in the nationwide competition \u201cBeekeeper of the Year 2023\u201d organized in cooperation with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The creator of the project and apiary supervisor, Marcin Sudzi\u0144ski, received first place in the \u201cUrban Beekeeping\u201d category and a distinction in the \u201cInnovative Solutions in Apiary\u201d category. Our urban honey was also recognized for its purity (free of heavy metals and pesticides) and high diastase number (a parameter determining the content of active bee enzymes in honey).<\/p>\n\n

The apiary also serves educational and teaching purposes, forming part of the training program for young beekeepers. Since 2023, students from the Beekeeping Technical School in Pszczela Wola have been accepted here as part of their compulsory vocational training.<\/p>\n\n

In addition to the beehives on the green roofs, we have a Beekeeping Workshop (level -2) and a Beekeeping Room (level -1), which can be visited during organized classes.<\/p>\n\n

Products from our apiary (honey, candles, wax ointments) can be purchased at the CSK Cultural Shop on level 0.<\/p>\n\n

Cautiont:<\/strong>\u00a0Bees are living organisms that have their own nature and species-specific defense systems against threats, which is why hives can only be entered in the presence of a beekeeper and wearing protective clothing.<\/p>\n\n
