About the workshops

Urban Artistic Apiary has been operating since 2016. It is a permanent and one of the most distinctive projects in the cultural offer of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin. It occupies several spaces in the CSK building. These are green roofs on level +4, the Beekeeping Room on level -1, and the Beekeeping Workshop on level -2.
The beehives are located on the roof, on level +4 on the side of Grottgera Street. During the spring and summer season, the place is accessible during the opening hours of the CSK building and serves as a recreational area for people staying on the green roofs. It is also the venue for some of our educational and nature workshops.

The Beekeeping Room on level -1 is designed for year-round meetings and activities. Presentations consist of original photographic materials, specially prepared videos on a large TV screen, presentations from projectors on the walls (based on sounds and computer graphics), and VR glasses. An important element are real objects from bees (e.g., wax combs, hive cloths, melted beeswax, etc.) and objects such as books and artifacts of beekeeping culture, on the basis of which we tell the story of bees and people. Our classes cover not only beekeeping itself, but also the culture that has grown up around beekeeping and apiculture over the centuries.

The Beekeeping Workshop on level -2 is a technical workspace where bee products are harvested and processed: honey, wax, and bee glue. If the groups are not large (up to 12 people), we organize workshops here, during which we work with beeswax in natural conditions. We teach how to make candles from pure wax, how to twist them from beeswax, or how to prepare a simple wax and oil ointment for skin care.
We invite people of all ages to participate in our classes, but they must be at least in the first grade of elementary school or older. Seniors are also welcome.
